M r and Mrs Dick Larson Jr. and three children from Mon tana stopped by and visited relatives on Wednesday last week, the Nordstrom’s, Everett Johnston's and Larson’s. They were vacationing. Church Slates Missionary TH E CHALLENGERS will appear at the Bible Church in Ver nonia Sunday, September 8. Church Slates Challengers The Challengers, from Port land, are three young men who have come together from a wide variety of musical background to form a gospel group of depth and quality. They have been together for six years and have performed in many varied situations, ranging from a small country church to Portland’s Civic Auditorium They are the host group for concerts presented on a regular basis by Northwest Gospel Sing, performing with national groups such as the Blackwood Brothers. Statesmen and Stamps Of spec ial note was their six per formances at the World’s F air in Spokane, Washington They have recently completed their eight long-play album Paul Bender, Director of Northwest Gospel Sing says, " I have enjoyed a long, enriching association with these versatile, talented and dedicated young men.” By way of personal intro duction: Darrell Kennedy is manager of the group, sings lead, and serves as emcee. He has been the host of TH E GOSPEL SING, a popular re quest program heard on KPDQ radio every Saturday evening from 7:30 to 10 p.m., for the past six years He is also Master of Ceremonies for Northwest Gos pel Sing Concerts Boyd Hoops carries the baritone part, has written and recorded many beautiful compositions, and does most of the arranging for the group Jack Fields, veteran of the full-time gospel quartet field, sings first tenor and is well known for his exciting rendition of the song, “ Ship Ahoy” .
